The Meltzer Research Fund Awards

All professors at the University of Bergen are entitled to nomiate candidates. The same applies to all Department Heads.
Professor emeriti cannot nominate candidates for the Meltzer Research Fund Awards.

CHECKLIST FOR NOMINATORS:

Honorary Award for Excellence in Research
  • The award is presented every 5 years. The award will be presented again on March 8, 2024.
  • The award is given to researchers who have shown outstanding excellence in their research.
  • The nomination can be up to 10 pages in length.
  • The nominator must provide grounds for the nomination based on academic merits; such as ground breaking research, significant academic publications, research collaboration, research leadership, excellence in research,  supervision of Ph.D. candidates etc during the previous 5 year period. The prize can be shared between several people.
  • A summary of CV and list of publications must be attached.
  • Professor emeriti cannot be nominated for the Honorary Award for Excellence in Research.

 Award for Young Researchers

  • The award for Outstanding Young Researchers is presented yearly and may be presented to two researchers every year.
  • The nominator must provide grounds for the nomination based on the  candidate’s innovative research and his/her latest publications, and give an account for the candidate’s individual merits if the research has been undertaken in a team.
  • Note that more recent research contributions, preferably those that have been published or reviewed in the previous year, or that have received particular academic recognition in the previous year, will be emphasised in the assessment of the candidate.
  • A CV and list of publications must be attached.
  • The Doctoral Dissertation Committee’s evaluation must be included.
  • Ensure that the nominee is not older than 40 years when the award is presented on March 8.
  • The nominee must be employed at the University of Bergen at the time of nomination.
  • Nominees who have had maternity/paternity leave and/or sick-leave may have this time subtracted from the age requirement of not being older than 40 years  when the award is presented on March 8 (relevant documentation must be submitted with the nomination).
  • The application can be up to 5 pages in length.
Award for Excellence in the Dissemination of Research
  • The Award for Excellence in the Dissemination of Research is presented every year.
  • The nominator shall base the nomination on the candidate’s contribution to the University’s mission of spreading information about research and the importance of research for society at large.
  • Meltzer awards are presented to researchers who have conducted research for large parts of their careers at UiB or who promote UiB.
  • The candidate’s willingness and ability to disseminate his/her research and field, both nationally and internationally, are specifically emphasised.
  • The application can be up to 5 pages in length.
  • A CV and list of publications must be attached.
  • Professor emeriti cannot be nominated for the Award for Excellence in the Dissemination of Research.
